Analysing 2025 Solvency and Financial Condition Reports (SFCRs) of life insurers in Europe and the UK

12 August 2026

This report on life insurance reviews the solvency and financial condition reports (SFCRs) for year-end 2025, published in 2026.

Our analysis of the European and UK life insurance market covers 652 companies from 32 countries and three territories, representing approximately £887 billion (€1.017 trillion) of gross written premium (GWP) and approximately £8.058 trillion (€9.236 trillion) of gross technical provisions (TPs). This represents a 1% decrease in the number of companies, a 10% increase in gross TPs, and a 14% increase in GWP relative to our year-end 2024 SFCR report, suggesting that overall life insurance sales by premium amount were higher in 2025 than in 2024.

In separate sections focused on Europe and the United Kingdom, the report analyses key areas including:

  • Balance sheet management - assets, liabilities, and reinsurance
  • Gross written premiums, incurred claims and expenses
  • Own funds
  • Solvency coverage – including the solvency capital requirement (SCR) and the minimum capital requirement (MCR)
  • Long-term guarantee measures
