
Mary Creten
Mary Creten is a principal at Milliman and a leader of the Milliman Advanced Risk Adjusters™ (MARA™) solution, the firm’s cutting-edge healthcare risk adjustment software product. With over two decades of experience in healthcare consulting, Mary brings deep technical and strategic expertise to the intersection of risk adjustment, predictive modeling, and health policy. She joined the firm in 2001.
Experience
Mary helps guide the strategic and operational direction of MARA, with leadership across client support, product development, and long-term growth strategy. As one of the original architects of MARA, she draws on over two decades of consulting experience to ensure the product meets the real-world needs of health plans, providers, and regulators.
Mary has led dozens of complex predictive modeling projects for public and private clients across the U.S. and internationally. Her experience includes the development of custom risk adjustment models for both state and national healthcare systems, as well as design and implementation support for alternative payment models, population health initiatives, and regulatory compliance.
Prior to her current role, Mary led engagements spanning the ACA, Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, and employer-sponsored markets. She played a central role in developing Milliman’s Medical Underwriting Guidelines and has supported a wide range of actuarial and analytic projects, including TRICARE pricing, CMS audit engagements, and litigation support for Medicaid rate-setting cases.
Known for her ability to translate complex analytics into practical, actionable strategies, Mary serves as a trusted advisor to health plan leaders and a driving force behind MARA’s continued innovation.
